Dra’gals, like many creatures, have an instinctual drive to own, and protect territory. This instinct exist primarily as a tool for their primary purpose, to protect life from threats. This primal drive exists far deeper compared to other creatures, deeper than the instinct to hunt, feed, or even breed. As a result, territory is deeply engrained within the cultures of Dra’gals, from the sole protector of forests, to the complex communities that span entire planets.
To a Dra’gal, all within the borders of a territory belongs to the Dra’gals whom own that territory. From resources such as trees, minerals, and bodies of water, to the animal and flora that live within. This includes complex forms of life capable of sentience, which often is a culture shock to those introduced to Dra’gals from the outside.
That’s not to say that any living within the border of a Dra’gal are slaves. All within the border, are free to leave, and any outside are welcome in. Instead, within more complex Dra’gal societies, this distinction is used in the formation of laws.
