<aside> 📝 Notes regarding Leylines, the manipulation of such, and the invasions of realities.

Our initial explorations of the Leylines have been mixed. Whilst initial findings are very promising, the unpredictability of these ‘weaker’ layers means we cannot venture far without risk of losing personnel. This isn’t a risk we’re willing to take, especially when we know so little about possible dangers beyond.

Our initial finding prove that yes, Leylines are impressionable. We’ve only ventured “one layer” deep, but even this singular layer is impressionable if one has a strong enough will. So far our researchers and explorers have been able to do very little except altering fine details, but even this is promising.

Our current understanding states that this first layer is most similar to ours, but ‘fuzzier’, and that holds true. Walking around is almost like walking around our reality, only details are missing. There’s no wind, no smells. Colours and sounds are dulled, as if looking through a washed filter or listening through a wall. Some places, and even entities, are able to leave a far more ‘distinct’ impression however.

Impressions within the void.

Much like a larger and heavier creature leaves a larger and more detailed footprint, the same is for places and objects leaving impressions upon the void. Towns and cities can be walked through, towers climbed and forests explored. But stores are bare, posters and wallpapers plain and empty. The larger the physical presence something has, the stronger the impression it leaves upon the Leylines.

However, we’ve discovered something… Unusual. It’s not just the physical presence that can cause impressions but ANY presence. The more iconic a location, or monument is, the more detailed it’s impression. The more influence a person holds, the clearer their ‘ghost’ is on the other side. This lead me to the idea that there are more ways to interact with Leylines than simple force of will.

Manipulation of Leylines

Simple force of will is enough to change impressions within Leylines. We’ve discovered that we can add details, or change details of existing impressions within the Leyline. It’s not out of the question that one of sufficient strength can simply, recreate this plane of existence as they wish; creating or destroying structures. Theoretically, if one mastered movement through this space, and manipulation of it, one could use Leylines as a way to traverse obstacles or distances otherwise impossible.

But knowing that there are more ways to interact with this space, we began some experiments. Emotional energy seems to have a strong effect here. Strong emotions, if directed correctly, can far more easily bend this space. This coincides with our findings that places or items of strong emotional significance have a stronger ‘imprint’ here.
