All beings, living and dead, have an attunement. Regardless if one is born in Radiance or Void, they exist within. This attunement is dependant on many factors, the two strongest being genetics and environment.
Above are three different “Attunement fields” for three different individuals. These attunement fields show what spectrums of mana they are more attuned to. In most individuals, this attunement will mean very little, often having little if no baring on their lives.
However, for those who interact with mana, this attunement field is where they are most strongest.
There are two types of magical practice. Kinesis and mancy. Whilst these outwardly appear mostly the same, they are fundamentally two different practices with different strengths and weaknesses. A mancer does not interact with mana the same way a kinesis does.
Kinesis is the act of drawing upon the existing power around them, and manipulating them.
Mancy is the act of drawing upon one’s own innate power, and manifesting it within the world around them.
A practitioner of Mancy is drawing upon their inner strength, their inner flame or hunger, and making in manifest within the world around them. An example of this would be a pyromancer practitioner. They don’t need existing flame or heat, or even tinder or fuel. They draw upon their own strength and make that strength manifest as a flame.
A practitioner of kinesis on the other hand uses their inner strength to bend and manipulate the fields of mana around them. An example of this would be a pyrokinesis practitioner. Without an existing flame, or mana to ignite existing tinder or fuel, they have no flame to command.
The end results are two fundamentally different ways of using one’s inner strength, and two very different ways of manipulating the world around.
Whilst a mancy practitioner is not limited by their environment, they are limited by their own strength. If they overexert themselves, they leave themselves weakened and exhausted. In rare and extreme cases, they can even undergo spontanious transmutation; the phenomena of their physical body “burning up” into mana.
Practitioners of kinesis on the other hand aren’t so limited by their inner strength, but instead the strength of the mana around them. If mana is plentiful, then they will encounter very little struggle, but if mana is in limited supply, then they have very little to work with.
Regardless of one’s practice, their attunement field dictates their natural strengths and weaknesses. One attuned to Growth, or Amp will find it more easy to manifest or manipulate mana that is more in tune to those attributes. This doesn’t mean one cannot extend beyond these limits though.
Through practice and dedication, one is able to expand their attunement field, and grow stronger in other hues of mana they were not naturally attuned to.
